TTASPE Reflects on 2010

Looking back at 2010, TTASPE has a lot to be proud and thankful for - 2010 saw a new era for TTASPE - thanks to the United Way of Trinidad and Tobago, TTASPE was able to acquire land and new offices just outside of Siparia, Trinidad, while launching a new look to TTASPE online at www.TTASPE.org.

A few highlights from 2010:

  • Kicking AIDS Out Caribbean Office Established – With support from the Commonwealth Games of Canada and the Kicking AIDS Out network TTASPE became the host organization for the Kicking AIDS Out Caribbean Office and successfully organized a Leader Level One Workshop in the Caribbean region.
  • Game On! Physical Education - Through a partnership with the British Council, Youth Sport Trust and UK Sport, Game On! Caribbean was able to create and pilot agility, balance and coordination activities which address children’s’ skill development at a younger age. These new activities have been incorporated in the enhanced Primary School Physical Education curriculum for schools throughout the Caribbean.
  • Ready and Able Program Expansion - 2010 saw an expansion of TTASPE’s Ready and Able program both locally and regionally as the program was introduced to 3 schools in St. Kitts and Nevis and 2 in Tobago. Additionally, programs at existing schools were enhanced by the introduction of the agility, balance and coordination components.
  • Jump Rope for Heart - the Jump Rope for Heart program embraced the idea of teachable moments and partnered with UNICEF to pilot a project that focused on the Rights of a Child using Jump Rope for Heart as a non-traditional teaching method to bring across the message of Child Rights to standard 2 students in 4 educational districts in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • International Inspiration - TTASPE is one of the key partners of the 2012 London Olympic Sports Legacy Program along with the British Council, UK Sport and the Trinidad and Tobago Government. TTASPE has worked on the development and execution of a Trinidad and Tobago Country Plan that focuses on providing cutting edge training to our youth sport coaches and physical education teachers, while at the same time promoting the power of peer coaching.
  • International Coaching Education Standards (ICES) - As part of the International Inspiration program TTASPE in partnership with UK Sport has worked with the Trinidad and Tobago Volleyball Federation (TTVF) and the Trinidad and Tobago Paralympic Committee (TTPC) to strengthen their programs and quality of their community coaching based on jointly developed international standards.

TTASPE would like to thank our members, funders, supporters, partners and volunteers in making 2010 a success. We are looking forward to a productive, inspiring and collaborative 2011.
